A case of the (good) Mondays...

Monday:

Mondays are usually a little rough. Yesterday was pleasantly easy though! We started the day with our first two classes (Gramática & Literatura, two of my favorites, really!) Then we (all of the foreign students studying in Salamanca—hundreds!) went over to the old historical building of the University for our Inaguración into our programs. It was nothing more than the big wigs of the university talking at us for almost an hour and a half, but afterwards there was a reception in the courtyard with free appetizers & beverages. The rest of our “morning” classes were cancelled, so Angi and I gorged ourselves on the free goodies (queso manchego with is amazing and kinda spendy, tortilla española, little glasses filled with gazpacho, [there were other ham-y snacks that of course we didn’t eat!] and wine!!) It kind-of reminded me of Jesuit’s TGIF gatherings. There was something absolutely decadent about the afternoon knowing that classes were suspended so we could partake in enjoying ourselves on the school’s dime!! I was able to take an amazing siesta after the mid-day celebration, which was much needed (as usual!).  The rest of the day wasn’t a total sloth-fest though; I had my culture class for two hours in the early evening and then there was a free concert that we went to that featured a Spanish guitarist that played different pieces that illustrated how the Spanish guitar has evolved. I love listening to the Spanish guitar!! It was a nice, enjoyable day!! But don’t worry, we’re back to our normal grueling schedule today and our teachers have reminded us about our upcoming midterm tests next week. Oy.
